Death Stranding Isolations – the Death Stranding anime that was first confirmed to be in production by Hideo Kojima back in May 2025 – now has its first trailer. The series itself is slated to hit Disney+ and other Disney streaming services in 2027. The trailer, which you can check out below, clocks in at 45 seconds in length and shows us how the series will adapt the traversal and delivery-based gameplay of Death Stranding and its sequel.
When it comes to story, the trailer doesn’t reveal too many details. It starts out by showing us a porter looking at what appears to be a shelter that was built in the center of a crater created by a voidout. We then get a look at the character that will likely end up serving as the protagonist of the story, trying to get some rest, wearing an eye mask with an LED display showing the word “sleep”. This rest, however, is interrupted by what appears to be a nightmare about incoming BTs. The creepy imagery is accompanied by sounds of a baby crying, indicating that the protagonist will have their own BB to help them navigate through BT-infested zones.
More details about Death Stranding Isolations are revealed in the description for the trailer. Starting off with the words “My mom became a crater”, the description then explains the basic premise of the world of Death Stranding. Following a cataclysmic collision of the realms of the living and the dead, humanity was forced to live in isolation, including a young girl who will likely serve as the main protagonist from the trailer.
The show is being directed by Takayuki Sano – known for his work on several anime shows and movies, including Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, Promare, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 – and the general production is being handled by E&H Production of Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet fame. The story of the anime will be set in North America and will take place immediately after the events of the first game after Sam has linked up the continent with the Chiral Network.
We also get details on some of the other characters that might be involved in the story, including a “wise old man who connects people through a method that defies all reckoning”, “a female soldier ensnared in a cycle of war and destruction”, “a boy who seethes with rage at the absurdity of his life”, and “the girl who chose to sever all ties with the outside world.”
In the meantime, Kojima Productions is also working with A24 on a live-action film adaptation of Death Stranding, and when he first announced the animated series, he noted that “there are works like The Last of Us, which stays true to the original storyline, and films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie which are more of a service to fans of the game.”
“While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.”
