Negative Heroic Strike Modifiers Are Terrible
Bungie finally made good on its promise to bring Heroic Strike modifiers to Destiny 2…and bungled the whole premise. You see, Heroic Strikes have one key modifier for the week – usually an elemental singe – and daily random modifiers. That means you could get something like Heavyweight which doubles Power Weapon damage and ammo drop rates. You could also get Glass, where health and shields are halved with doubled recharge rates, or Blackout which disables the radar and causes enemies to deal 20 times the melee damage.
It’s lame, annoying and even the chance of getting a slight increase to Power level every couple of Strikes offers no incentive. And before you utter “Git gud”, keep in mind that games like Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls reward players for understanding the combat system and enemy patterns while developing the most effective solutions. Destiny 2’s Heroic Strike modifiers are static and meandering with too little reward to justify the time sink.
