Bungie has announced that actor Keith David will be taking up the role of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2 going forward. The studio made the announcement through a blog post, and has further stated that Zavala will be sticking around in Destiny 2‘s future storylines.

Keith David is taking over the role of Zavala from Lance Reddick, who had passed away at the age of 60 back in March. Throughout his career, Reddick had played several iconic roles, having worked in The Wire, John Wick, Destiny, and Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.

“I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work,” David said.

Bungie had earlier stated that there would be more Destiny 2 content featuring Reddick’s work as Zavala in the game’s storylines, but the company seems to have made the unenviable decision to move on with Keith David taking on the role.

Destiny 2 is currently gearing up for its next major season, winding down its ongoing Season of the Deep storyline. Season 22 will be bringing with quite a bit of new content to the game, including new weapons and a new cap for masterwork materials.
