Destiny Won’t Have Raid Matchmaking Any Time Soon

Bungie would like to have some style of LFG mechanics in-game though.

Destiny The Dark Below

Following the revelation regarding the upgrading of Exotics in time for The Dark Below expansion, Bungie revealed to Game Informer that Destiny won’t have matchmaking for its Raids any time soon. Lead designer Luke Smith does like the different LFG communities dedicated to finding players for Raids though.

“We’re certainly noticing that there is voracity in the fanbase for content that makes them think-content that challenges them in some different ways.

“I think rather than say ‘Yeah, we’re going to make matchmaking for raids,’ the way I’m thinking about this problem is how we’re going to create that kind of content and create those kinds of emotions in matchmade activities. I think that’s the challenge. It’s not how do we change the raid-design philosophy to allow for matchmaking.

“I think looking at the LFG [looking for game] – style mechanics is something we absolutely want to do.

“We would love to get to a place someday where you can advertise your intent to people. Where you can say ‘I want to do this. Are you looking to do this with me?’ But we have absolutely no plans to do raid matchmaking at this time.”

This isn’t to say that LFG mechanics aren’t like matchmaking but it seems Bungie would like more of a screening process rather than a simple pairing system. What are your thoughts on this, especially with The Dark Below releasing on December 9th? Let us know in the comments.
