SSDs seem to be the talk of the town right now, and for good reason. Both the PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett are promising to make use of solid state drives to heavily cut down on loading times, and developers both big and small have come forward to express their elation at the prospect of what that could enable in terms of tangible game design.

Another developer who’s excited about SSDs in upcoming hardware is Alex Golebiowski of Pixelnauts, developers of action adventure space exploration title Lost Orbit – Terminal Velocity. Speaking with GamingBolt in an interview, Golebiowski said of SSDs in next gen consoles, “What a great choice by both Sony and Microsoft. Load times will never be the same!”

That’s not the only thing about next gen hardware that excited Golebiowski though. The PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett are both also making use of AMD’s Zen 2 processor, which is promising to be a significant leap over the processors found in current gen hardware. Golebiowski says this will allow developers to create beautiful games with even fewer restrictions.

“I have a AAA art background,” he said, “and although Lost Orbit was a relatively simple game, I am looking forward to having even fewer boundaries to make beautiful games without having to spend the budget of a full AAA dev.”

Lost Orbit – Terminal Velocity, an expanded re-release of the 2015 title, is out now for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Our will interview with Golebiowski will be live soon, so stay tuned.
