That Diablo 4 would be a massive commercial success out the gate was never in any doubt, even amidst a period of major turbulence for Activision Blizzard as a whole, and unsurprisingly, the action RPG has posted impressive numbers in the early days after its release. It became available in early access on June 2, followed by a full global release on June 6, and within five days of the latter, the game has raked in over $666 million in revenue, Activision has announced.

That’s Blizzard Entertainment’s biggest ever opening for a game to date, in terms of both unit sales and dollar sales, and, interestingly enough, is also the box-office equivalent of the biggest opening week of the year.

“On behalf of Blizzard, we want to thank the millions of players around the world who are immersing themselves in Diablo 4,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. “Diablo 4 is a result of our incredible teams working together to craft and support genre-defining games, build legendary worlds, and inspire memories that will last a lifetime. We’re humbled by the response, proud of the team, and remain committed to listening to our players and ensuring Diablo continues to exceed expectations for years to come.”

Players have collectively already logged in over 276 million hours of play time, and it’s safe to say that that number is bound to increase as time goes on. The already-massive game will begin its seasonal content updates next month, while multiple expansions are also planned over the coming years, with the first two already being in development.

Diablo 4 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Read our review through here.
