It was recently revealed today that Disney Interactive is tying up with EA to create a few new “core” Star Wars games. Studios on the project include Digital Illusions CE of Battlefield and Mirror’s Edge fame, along with Visceral Games, who worked on Army of TWO and Dead Space.
DICE director Johan Andersson revealed that the new Star Wars games would be built on Frostbite 3, the new engine that debuted with Battlefield 4 and which will make its way to Dragon Age 3 and the next Mass Effect. This lead to a user on Twitter stating that the games wouldn’t run on the Wii U, “despite the fact Frostbite 3 was running on the platform initially and then halted”.
This prompted a response from Andersson who clarified just why we wouldn’t be seeing a Wii U version of any Frostbite 3 engine game any time soon.
@mutedpenguin FB3 has never been running on WiiU. We did some tests with not too promising results with FB2 & chose not to go down that path
