Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D Developer is Monster Games

The racing games developer will port Retro Studios' acclaimed platformer to the 3DS.

An Australian Classification Board listing has revealed that the upcoming Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, which is a port of the original 2.5D side-scrolling platformer developed by Retro Studios for the Wii, will be developed by Monster Games.

Established in 1996, Monster Games is primarily known for its racing titles like NASCAR Heat, Excite Truck and Excitebike: World Rally. They’ve worked with Nintendo before, developing Pilotwings Resort for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, so its not like they have no experience whatsoever with their franchises.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D sees gaming’s favourite ape Donkey Kong return with Diddy Kong to take on the Tiki Tak Tribe, who’ve hypnotized the denizens of Donkey Kong Island and stolen the main man’s bananas.

Donkey Kong, for his part, says “Screw that” and goes off in search of said bananas while rescuing his friends. The original Wii game was critically acclaimed and sold roughly 5 million copies as of March 2011.
