The titular dragons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are major opponents to be faced, and defeating 4 of them in particular, are a requirement for the ‘Bringing Down The Sky’ Achievement/Trophy. There are 8 dragons in total, and the order in which you fight some of them is determined by certain choices made over the course of the campaign.

This guide lists all 8 dragons that you will eventually face in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Corius The Icetalon

One of two initial dragons you can potentially battle, Corius the Icetalon is a Blight-ridden Ice/Cold dragon that you encounter if you decide to defend Treviso when the choice is presented after completion of ‘A Warden’s Best Friend’.

In this quest called ‘On Deadly Wings’, Rook will have to fight alongside Lucanis, and you will want to bring the heat to bear in combat with fire strikes.

This fight will end without a proper resolution, as the dragon scampers off to fight another day.

Seartooth Vyrantus

The other dragon that can be encountered, if you choose Minrathous over Treviso when the choice is presented after completion of ‘A Warden’s Best Friend’, Seartooth Vyrantus is a Fire dragon riddled with Blight.

In this quest called ‘On Blighted Wings’, Rook will have to team up with Neve, and resort to cold strikes to beat this dragon into a hasty retreat.

Once again, this fight will end abruptly as the dragon withdraws for a future confrontation.

The Formless One

The path to The Formless One begins after Emmrich joins Rook during the story. Finish the initial companion quest in order to unlock the side quest ‘Pinnacle Of Its Kind’.

This level 40 Electric/Lightning High Dragon is located in the Necropolis Halls which itself must be unlocked through exploration.

The Formless One is not just lightning strikes and electric fields, but also a necromancer that can call forth skeletons and mages in combat. Ideal companions are Lucanis and/or Emmrich for this fight, and relying on Necrosis/Necrotic damage.

Fangscorcher

A companion quest ‘Slaying the Fangscorcher’ starts you off towards the first High Dragon that you will battle on behalf of Taash.

The quest is unlocked at The Lighthouse after the ‘Fire and Ice’ story quest, and will take you to the Deep Woods in Arlathan Forest.

As another Fire High Dragon with a natural resistance to it, you will have had prior experience dealing with this dragon type already, having battled Seartooth Vyrantus at least once. Once again, Fangscorcher can be countered with cold attacks, so bring Neve along for this battle.

Kataranda the Stormrider

Accepting the companion quest ‘Kataranda the Stormrider’ will set you on the journey to battle the eponymous dragon, on behalf of Taash yet again.

At The Lighthouse, visit Taash’s room and examine a letter there before proceeding.

Awaiting you at Dragon Beach in Rivain, is Kataranda the Stormrider, another Electric/Lightning High Dragon, just like The Formless One. Do your best to avoid the water as it is expectedly a conductor of electric damage.

Kaltenzahn

The last of Taash’s three High Dragons, Kaltenzahn is the objective of the companion quest ‘Lair of the Dragon King’.

Start at The Lighthouse again, before returning to the Rivain Coast where the Sharksmouth Caves secret area has been unlocked for this quest.

You will have faced a similar Ice/Cold dragon already in Corius the Icetalon, so Kaltenzahn should be easily countered using the same tactics.

Mythal’s Retribution

Just like with the battles versus Corius the Icetalon and Seartooth Vyrantus, defeating Mythal’s Retribution has no bearing on the ‘Bringing Down The Sky’ Achievement/Trophy, despite the message that reads ‘High Dragon Has Been Defeated’.

Mythal’s Retribution can be found at the conclusion of the exceptionally long side quest ‘Regrets of the Dread Wolf’, which itself is unlocked at the end of the story quest ‘Labs Below’ in the Converged City of the Crossroads.

Yet another Electric/Lightning High Dragon, Mythal’s Retribution will prove to be easier than The Formless One to defeat.

This fight should be avoided entirely, if the goal is to get the Achievement/Trophy ‘Clear Minds And Open Hearts’.

Revenant Dragon

Possibly the hardest of the High Dragons to battle, the Revenant Dragon is a level 50 opponent, and requires some significant questing to even unlock.

Beginning with the quest ‘The Heart Of Corruption’ you will eventually arrive at the arena of the Revenant Dragon on Beacon Island.

Not only is its defense buffed, the Blight-ridden Revenant Dragon cycles its attacks from Ice/Cold to Fire to Electric/Lightning. Lucanis and/or Emmrich relying on Necrosis/Necrotic damage may be your best strategy.

Those are all eight High Dragons, including the four needed for the ‘Bringing Down The Sky’ Achievement/Trophy in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
