Square Enix will be following up on the unexpectedly successful Dragon Quest Builders, their take on the Minecraft formula melded with some traditional old school Dragon Quest JRPG goodness, with a sequel. They have announced Dragon Quest Builders 2, a follow up to the original game that expands upon its strengths and concepts, while also adding a full fledged multiplayer mode into the mix.

Announced during the Dragon Quest Summer Festival in Tokyo this weekend, the game is due out for a release some time next year- for now, it actually appears to be rather early in development. The new game is due out on the Nintendo Switch and the PS4, unlike the original, which launched on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

You can check out some gameplay footage for the new game below- but bear in mind that, given how early in development the game is, none of this is final, and the game may in fact end up looking very different when it launches next year.
