Dying Light 2 may not be an outright horror game, but set as it is in a post-apocalyptic world full of zombies and undead monstrosities, horror is, of course, an important element of the experience. And developer Techland is looking to ramp up that aspect of the game even further with upcoming updates.

Speaking in a recent interview with The GamerDying Light 2 lead designer Tymon Smektala revealed that the open world action RPG’s upcoming update, which is currently eyeing an early summer launch, will make it an “even scarier” and up the ante with the in-game nighttime sections.

“Horror became a huge part of Dying Light’s DNA so we’ll keep it as a part of the experience moving forward,” he said. “Our next update, planned for early summer, is focused exactly on this – we’re ramping up our night experience, making it even scarier. We hope to create a tense experience that will make our players ‘s**t their pants.’ We plan to pull all the stops – gameplay mechanics, visual tricks, audio scares. Get ready!”

To say that horror is incredibly popular right now would be a bit of an understatement, given how many horror titles have seen significant success of late, and how many more are still on the horizon, while the Dying Light community has almost frequently bemoaned how Dying Light 2 ramps down the atmosphere when compared to its predecessor- so this should be a popular improvement, if it’s executed as it ideally should be.

Last month, Techland also pushed out the Gut Feeling update for Dying Light 2, which brought a number of combat improvements to make the game more brutal and violent, while a month before that, several other gameplay features were also introduced, including transmogDying Light 2 is also set to receive its next story DLC later this year.
