With the recent start of Elden Ring Nightreign‘s network tests, players have figured out how well the title performs across consoles. Courtesy of X user Zuby_Tech, we have details about how the game runs on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
The PS5 version of the game can maintain a frame rate of 40 FPS while running at 2160p in quality mode. Performance mode offers a dynamic resolution between 1080p and 1800p while maintaining 60 FPS. The PS5 Pro, on the other hand, can hit 55 FPS at 2160p in quality mode, while performance mode kicks things up, with resolutions of up to 2160p at 60 FPS.
On the Xbox Series X, the quality mode can deliver 37 FPS at 2160p, with performance mode being dynamic between 1080p and 1800p while maintaining 60 FPS. Xbox Series S, on the other hand, can only go up to 1440p and 35 FPS in quality mode, while its performance mode swings between 1080p and 920p while hitting 60 FPS.
It is worth noting that since these details are from the network stress test, performance across all platforms will likely improve in the final game. There is still plenty of time until Elden Ring Nightreign‘s May 30 release, and FromSoftware is likely optimising the title and adding more polish.
Unveiled back in December 2024, Elden Ring Nightreign is a co-op RPG where up to three players embark on rogue-lite runs. The combat is similar to what we originally saw in Elden Ring, albeit with a few extras, including new tools like a grappling hook and wings for flying.
The title takes several cues from other genres to bring more replayability. For instance, it will feature an ever-shrinking circle that guides players into specific areas, akin to what you might see in a battle royale game. Director Junya Ishizaki has spoken about how the idea came into being and how it wasn’t originally developed with battle royale concepts in mind.
“The battle royale-type structure was not considered to be the base of the game,” said Ishizaki. ” It wasn’t a starting point, it was something that sort of took shape, or elements of these games took shape during the development of Nightreign.”
The title will be also taking inspiration from the roguelite genre by featuring a world that can procedurally spawn new features. This can range from a giant volcano to an all-out swamp zone. Ishizaki said this was so players could treat the map like a giant dungeon that differs each time they play.
“We wanted the map itself to be a giant dungeon, so players have the chance to traverse and explore a different way every time they play,” he said. “You have to choose the boss you want to face at the end of the third day.”
Elden Ring Nightreign is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, but it won’t feature crossplay. While PS4 and PS5 players can play together, they won’t be able to play with Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S players.
