FromSoftware’s Elden Ring launched last week and saw an overwhelmingly strong reception from critics and fans. Along with over 764,000 peak concurrent players on Steam, its physical sales topped UK retail charts for the week ending February 26th. However, that was only half the story – when accounting for digital and physical sales, it had the biggest video game launch in the UK since Call of Duty: Vanguard.
According to data provided by GSD (via GamesIndustry), it was also the biggest game launch in the UK for a non-Call of Duty or FIFA title since Red Dead Redemption 2. If that weren’t enough, its launch sales in the region are 2.5 times higher than that of Horizon Forbidden West, Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Of the total sales, 68 percent came from digital downloads.
Digital downloads accounted for nearly 85 percent of total sales on Xbox; 73 percent on PC; and a little over 50 percent on PS5 and PS4. When taking both physical and digital sales together, 32 percent of total sales were on PS5, followed by 30 percent on PC. Xbox platforms accounted for 29 percent while PS4 sales made up four percent of the total.
