Endless Dungeon

After eight years of Sega’s ownership, Amplitude Studios has announced it’s going independent once more. A Steam Community post confirmed that “some of” the founders and team members now own the studio. Though it’s separate from Sega, it’s parting on “good terms” and wishes the publisher “the best for all their future projects.”

Founder Romain de Waubert de Genlis stated, “Our studio is backed by strong and meaningful franchises, and our team is committed to creating the best games possible. With our extensive experience in strategy game development and two exciting titles currently in progress, we are confident in our ability to deliver outstanding experience to players.

“This decision allows us to be more agile in our approach while continuing to shape the vision that has been ours from the very beginning, empowering us to push boundaries and be closer than ever to our community.”

As for what’s next, the studio’s 4X strategy title, Humankind, is receiving a new patch, with more details coming next week. It will also discuss the future at its annual Amplified event in January 2025. Time will tell if there’s any news for the Endless franchise beyond further updates for Endless Dungeon.

A similar situation occurred earlier this year when Company of Heroes and Warhammer: Dawn of War developer Relic Entertainment split from Sega (leading to layoffs). Both efforts, alongside the cancellation of Creative Assembly’s HYENAS, are part of a restructuring of its European studios. It remains to be seen if Amplitude will fundamentally change after becoming independent, so stay tuned.
