The full list of nominees across all categories at The Game Awards next month will be fully unveiled imminently, ahead of which the event’s organizers have offered some clarifications.

Caught by Polygon, an update to the official FAQ on The Game Awards’ website has confirmed that all expansions, new seasons of content for older titles, remakes, and remasters will be eligible for all awards, including in the Game of the Year category.

“The Game Awards aims to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, irrespective of the format of that content’s release,” the FAQ reads. “Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination. Factors such as the newness of the content and its price/value should be taken into consideration.”

Notably, 2024 saw the release of Elden Ring’s acclaimed supersized expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which saw widespread critical acclaim. Whether this is indicative of what we can expect from the imminent nominee announcements remains to be seen.

Speaking of which, The Game Awards’ full list of nominees will be unveiled November 18 at 9 AM Pacific / 12 PM Eastern / 5 PM GMT.
