Meet the adorable River.

Fallout 4

Dogmeat may have been present in previous Fallout games but Fallout 4’s Dogmeat is special. As revealed in a new video from Bethesda, he’s based off of lead level designer Joel Burgess’s dog River. So if you’re wondering why he’s a German Shepherd and not an Alsatian, there’s your answer.

Aside from functioning as an adorable showcase for River, the video also reveals how the dog was placed inside Fallout 4 and the process behind it. Dogmeat will function pretty much the same as in Fallout 3, able to follow you and attack your enemies. The biggest difference this time is that he can’t die, which should help alleviate a ton of frustration from anyone who watches him fighting something too overpowered.

Fallout 4 is nearing completion and will be releasing on November 10th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on the above video for Dogmeat and River? Let us know in the comments.
