Even if the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 could stretch into years, at least Bethesda’s Fallout is making moves. Besides Fallout 76’s Burning Springs update, there’s also Amazon’s TV show, which recently kicked off its second season. And before you start divorcing the latter from the video games, director Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 5 – whenever it happens – will take its events into account.

Speaking to BBC’s Newsbeat, he said, “In short, yes. Fallout 5 will exist in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening. We are taking that into account.”

Whether this means its characters will show up or not is a completely different story. Regardless, if you’ve enjoyed the show, Howard considers it a worthwhile way to experience the series, calling viewers “equal fans” of its world.

“There are still so many people who won’t play a game. I think that’s getting better, but there are still people who are intimidated. They still get to experience Fallout, and I think that’s really important because they’re now equal fans of the world.”

Fallout 5 hasn’t been officially revealed by Bethesda, though rumors claim it’s in the works. Howard said the team is working on a “whole bunch of stuff” for the series and that may include the long-rumored Fallout 3 remaster. Of course, when it will be released, much less revealed, remains to be seen.
