"FBC: Firebreak’s commercial performance has largely been driven by the Xbox and PlayStation subscription service agreements."

Remedy Entertainment’s half-year financial report, covering the period from January to June 2025, is now available, offering updates on in-development projects and other releases. It only had one major release during this period – FBC: Firebreak, a co-op first-person shooter set in the Control universe. A venerable first for the company, which reached more than one million players within the first ten days.

Remedy noted the “majority” to be Xbox Series X/S and PS5 players (due to Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium). And while the launch “succeeded technically,” it underperformed on Steam, which was to be “the primary consumer sales channel on PC.”

“Commercially, we were unsatisfied with the launch-phase consumer sales of FBC: Firebreak. Thus far, FBC: Firebreak’s commercial performance has largely been driven by the Xbox and PlayStation subscription service agreements. A considerable portion of the revenues from these agreements will still be recognized throughout the contract period.”

Of course, it’s not giving up on the experience. “FBC: Firebreak was designed as a game that evolves over time. Despite the rocky launch, we believe we have a solid game to build on. Players who spent over an hour with the game reviewed it mostly positively, showing us that the core experience of the game is entertaining. We have already rolled out patches and communicated on how the game will continue to develop.”

This includes the first major update next month, which will add a new Job centred around a “sushi train,” two new enemies, and an overhaul to the progression. Corruption and Clearance Levels are also being removed to focus more on pre-made variations on existing Jobs, accessible through the new Crisis Board. Head here for more details.
