Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 15 is a massive hit among fans. The publisher announced that the long-awaited sequel in the series has shipped 5 million units worldwide on launch day with digital sales included. It also seems that the game managed to break first day digital sales records in Japan while also setting a record for release date shipments and downloads in regions of Asia outside Japan.

Final Fantasy 15 was released worldwide and is the first game in the series to do so. It’s not all that surprising that shipment numbers are so especially considering the marketing blitzkrieg and hype behind the game.

Of course, it should be noted that “shipped” doesn’t equal units sold. We’ll find out where Final Fantasy 15 stands in the sales charts when the NPD and Gfk Chart-Track file their reports in the coming weeks.
