Final Fantasy 15’s All-Male Cast Feels “More Approachable for Players”

Director Hajime Tabata believes it results in a "more natural feeling" in the cast's behaviour.

Final Fantasy 15

Final Fantasy 15’s demo has been getting some rather good impressions since its launch with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD but there’s been a rather obvious question avoided till now – why are there only males in the cast?

Director Hajime Tabata spoke to GameSpot about the same and stated that, “Speaking honestly, an all-male party feels almost more approachable for players.

“Even the presence of one female in the group will change their behaviour, so that they’ll act differently. So to give the most natural feeling, to make them feel sincere and honest, having them all the same gender made sense in that way.”

So it seems to be less of a “gender inequality” issue and more about capturing the atmosphere of “boys will be boys”. As Tabata says, “It was the story we wanted to tell and what we wanted to show players.”
