Final Fantasy 16 Director Wants to Make it Available “for as Many People as Possible”

Director Hiroshi Takai also confirms the development team is "hard at work" on the PC version, though a release date is still unknown.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 16 celebrated its first anniversary recently, with the action RPG available on PS5. It’s had quite the journey with two paid DLCs in Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, and director Hiroshi Takai reaffirms the developer is “hard at work” on the PC version.

However, he added, “We would like to make Final Fantasy 16 available to play for as many people as possible, so watch out for that one too.” Could this mean a potential launch on Xbox Series X/S (which producer Naoki Yoshida hinted at previously)? Maybe a Game Pass release, even if it’s only the PC version? Time will tell, but it wouldn’t be too out of left field.

Despite a positive critical reception, Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu noted that sales for the title had slowed after launch and failed to reach the publisher’s targets. A Game Pass release could help recoup development costs, and while the actual amount is unknown, Yoshida was surprised at Square Enix allowing the team to “spend this much.” Stay tuned for more updates, and in the meantime, check out our review for the base game.
