Final Fantasy 16 - The Rising Tide

From new story content to a flashy new battle against Leviathan to a new endgame survival mode, Final Fantasy 16’s upcoming expansion, The Rising Tide is promising to add a number of significant new things to the action RPG. Another notable addition will be Mysidia, the location that the DLC is set in, and during a recent PAX East panel dedicated to The Rising Tide, new details on Mysidia were also revealed.

Mysidia is, of course, a name that will be familiar to fans of Final Fantasy 2 and 4, and with the location also being strongly magically-infused in The Rising Tide, it was named as an homage to those older titles. In the world of FF16, Mysidia is hidden away in the norther territories of Storm, where it has managed to avoid the Blight and sparkles under bright, blue skies. How it finds itself in such a state is a mystery that the DLC will answer. Interestingly, being situated in Storm’s norther regions, Mysidia will also have strong narrative ties to Jill, who was also born in the north.

Mysidia will also be home to Tonberries, a classic Final Fantasy enemy that Final Fantasy 16 is putting an appropriately terrifying twist on. The enemies, who look like they’ve been ripped straight out of Bloodborne, will be challenging foes that will also have the ability to ambush players from behind when you’re exploring Mysidia’s open fields.

As part of the panel, new gameplay footage was also showcased, revealing a number of Mysidia’s many gorgeous locales, showcasing new details on the Tonberries, and more. Check it out below.

Final Fantasy 16: The Rising Tide launches for PS5 on April 18.
