There’s no shortage of anticipation surrounding Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s looming launch, and Square Enix has cranked that up even further with new updates on the game. Along with a new trailer, the company has released screenshots and details on some of the game’s locations and characters, while also detailing the combat abilities of Yuffie and Cait Sith, both of whom are going to be introduced as new party members.

Yuffie was, of course, playable in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade’s Episode INTERmission, so her gameplay is going to be familiar to players. In combat, she unleashes basic attacks using her throwing star, which builds up ATB faster than most other characters, while she can also use magic-infused ninjutsu moves.

One of Yuffie’s more intriguing abilities is Doppelgänger, which, as its name suggests, allows her, as Square Enix puts it, to “attack in tandem with her clone, enabling her to exploit enemies’ weaknesses even more effectively.” Meanwhile, not only does her throwing star make her a ranged specialist, her ninjutsu moves are also spread across a variety of different elements.

Cait Sith, meanwhile, is who you’re going to gravitate if you prefer agile and quick characters, while he can also bring in his moogle companion to aid him in combat. Along with abilities that will rely on “luck” in different ways, Cait Sith can also buff up allies, and even attack enemies with a Dropkick attack while riding around on his moogle.

Meanwhile, Cait Sith and Yuffie will be able to unleash Synergy Abilities as well, which are special attacks that can be initiated by varying combinations of two characters. Yuffie and Caith Sith’s Synergy Ability, called Moogle Pinwheel, will see them attacking enemies using “a secret ninja technique”.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches for PS5 on February 29.
