Final Fantasy 7 Remake (23)

Square Enix has released several new screenshots for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which includes character renders, environments and more. Details on Materia have also been provided and we finally get a look at the official PS4 box art. If that weren’t enough, we get gameplay of Cloud, Tifa and Aerith battling Abzu in the sewers beneath Midgar without commentary.

Along with Wait Mode and Shortcuts, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s battle system also has Party Commands. You can issue commands to allies using L2 and R2 (though character switching is still a thing with the D-Pad). We also get to see Tifa’s Limit Break “Somersault” and Barret’s Limit Break “Grenade Bomb”. The Materia System returns, letting players equip different materia to weapons and armor. Some can be combined, producing different effects.

You have Lightning Materia which can use spells like Thunder, Thundara and Thundaga; Time Materia for Haste, Slow and Stop; and Support Materia like Attribute which can change elemental properties of different armor and weapons is outlined. Summons like Ifrit have already been seen and though you can only have one active at a time, they have their own special moves and can receive commands. Locales like the Sector 7 Slums and 7th Heaven bar, complete with darts, are also showcased in the screenshots.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out on March 3rd 2020 for PS4. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
