Play the remake like the original... sort of.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the most anticipated games of next year, in a year with a lot of big titles coming out. The game will see a lot of things familiar to fans, but also a lot that is radically different. For one, the game is being cut into parts, with lots of things being expanded and altered. Another radical shift is the combat. But there is a Tactical Mode that slows down things in a sort-of-kind-of old school simulation. We got a look at that today.

The Tactical Mode slows down the action of the game when you press X. There you can more carefully and deliberately chose your next mode of attack. In the video below you can see it in action, as they use Cloud’s Braver ability using that method.

While it isn’t really a true turn-based or ATB solution to those who wanted the game to keep in that lane, it’s an interesting compromise for those who maybe aren’t too thrilled about the total shift in gameplay (though there’s something a bit closer to that in the game as well). You’ll get a chance to use Tactical Mode all you want when the game launches exclusively on PlayStation 4 next year.
