An unofficial fan project has recently been launched on Kickstarter for what can be described as a dream project, namely Final Fantasy VII: The Web Series. Yes, it is exactly what you think it is – a web series dedicated to recreating a live-action adaptation of Squaresoft’s critically acclaimed, commercially successful and eternally famous Final Fantasy VII.

The funding will be for the first season which consists of 5-6 episodes of 15 minutes each. The crew is reportedly made of more than a hundred film industry professionals, with writer Xander Williams (who created the popular FFVII fan-fiction novel “The Jenova Project”) penning the screenplay.

With a target goal of $400,000 the project currently has $5,964 pledged by 165 backers with 29 days still to go. The funding will go into studio time, equipment and production, and paying cast and crew members. Check out the concept video below to see what can be expected in terms of tone, presentation and snippets of some of the characters.
