Foamstars

Square Enix’s Splatoon-like multiplayer shooter Foamstars received a new trailer during the recent State of Play and a release window. It’s out in early 2024 for PS4 and PS5, but current-gen console players can try it out early with the upcoming open beta.

It runs from September 29th, 6 PM PT, to October 1st, 11:59 PM PT, and is free to download from the PlayStation Store (with no PS Plus subscription required). There are two different 4v4 modes on offer – Smash the Star, which involves scoring seven knockouts and defeating the Star Player, and Happy Bath Survival, with two infield players from each side battling it out while two outfield players provide support.

There are eight playable characters, with illustration team Gurihiru handling their designs, and MONACA, founded by NieR: Automata composer Keiichi Okabe, is behind the soundtrack. Stay tuned for more details from the open beta when it goes live.
