Epic Games’ Fortnite is now available in Early Access for everyone on Xbox One, PC and PS4. Digital Foundry got its hands on the console versions and decided to test their respective performance.

Interestingly, when testing the Unreal Engine 4 title on PS4 and PS4 Pro, frame pacing issues and occasional stutter with 100 ms frame-time spikes were observed. While both versions ran at 1080p resolution, the PS4 saw frame rate drops to the mid-20s while the PS4 Pro was closer to the target 30 FPS.

By comparison, despite running at 900p resolution, the Xbox One version had 33 ms frame pacing and was close to the 30 FPS target frame rate in terms of performance. Unfortunately, the 100 ms frame rate spikes were also spotted here.

However, it’s obvious from this report that the Xbox One is the place to best experience Fortnite on consoles. Again, the title is in Early Access so performance improvements and optimization should be expected in the coming months.
