Promotional trade in deals offering massively more credit than usual when traded in towards a specific thing are really par for the course. It’s generally a great way to get someone to trade in, for instance, an older Xbox, DS, or PlayStation family system towards a newer one for far cheaper than they otherwise would have been able to get it for.

And then there is this deal. This fantastic deal, which I imagine will go down in the annals of history as one of the greatest of all time, is being offered by US retailer GameStop. This deal will offer you a not insignificant $200 in trade in credit if you trade in your Switch towards—drumrolls, please—a Nintendo Switch. No, that’s not a typo. That’s basically it. With this deal, you end up with the exact same system that you already had, but you’re also short $100 (at the very least) in the bargain. What in the world?

Kotaku reports that GameStop is doing this to entice people who may want one of the upcoming Switch bundles, like the special edition ones for Diablo 3, Pokemon Let’s Go, or Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but already own a Switch, and I guess that makes sense, but… why? Just keep your Switch and buy the game like a normal person. Or fine, waste your money, what do I care.
