You’ve probably – or probably not – asked why it’s called Gears 5 and not Gears of War 5. While there might be a story-based reason that’s still unclear, The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson stated post-E3 2019 that “We’re doing a family of products it made more sense to shorten the titles down – Gears Pop, Gears Tactics & Gears 5.” Fergusson noted that the franchise name is still “Gears of War” but added that, “We always just call it Gears anyway so it feels good to simplify.”
