Gears of War 4-3

As more screenshots and information comes about about Gears of War 4, there are some people who are starting to wonder if the entire concept of the series is about to change with the newest title. After having looked at the trailers and some of the screenshots that have been out there, some are wondering this game is going to be taking more of a survival horror approach, instead of the cover shooter action game the previous titles in the Gears of War series have been.

The game’s producer, Rod Fergusson was asked flat out on Twitter whether or not the game series was taking a turn to the horror genre, he made sure to shoot down those rumors rather quickly. “No – we’re not survival horror. We just wanted a darker tone. We’re still an action game.”

While Fergusson has said that this is not going to be a horror survival game, it should be pointed out that the developers do want some suspense and some scares in the game. Fergusson has said a number of times that he felt like the first Gears of War had quite a bit of suspense, the series moved away from that and turned into more of just a series that focused on the war between the Locust and the humans. The team wants to get back to players being on the edge of their seat and have a sense of suspense. We’ll see whether The Coalition managed to do this when the Gears of War 4 beta goes live on April 18.
