Fear the swarm.

Gears of War 4-3

Gears of War 4 seems to be promising enough that a lot of people are, in spite of whatever initial caution they may have had, beginning to feel the hype for the game. The title is going to be the first entry in the series that will be developed by in house Microsoft studio The Coalition, as opposed to Epic, who were behind the original trilogy.

While there is a general level of anxiety about whether or not The Coalition can live up to the pedigree of the original games (with good reason, considering that Halo is widely acknowledged to have suffered in the transition from Bungie to 343), on the whole, it looks good enough that enough people are letting their guard down.

A lot of that excitement seems to be around some of the new things that this game is trying for the franchise, instead of trying to rehash the mythology from the original games- for instance, take the new kinds of Swarm enemies. The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson took to Twitter to tease the Swarm enemies, in a tweet that you can see below. They look like worthy successors to the locust, don’t they?

Gears of War 4 launches October 11 on Xbox One.
