Gears of War- franchise sales cross 19 million

Microsoft's epic franchise crosses the 19 million sales mark

Posted By | On 07th, Nov. 2012

After Microsoft recently announced that their premium first party franchise, Halo has sold 46 million units collectively since it launched in 2001, another announcement has come that another Xbox exclusive franchise, Epic’s Gears of War, has sold 19 million units collectively across 3 games since its debut in 2006 with the original Gears of War.

Considering there are just three games in the franchise, that’s a huge number, and it implies that each game sells about 6.3 million. Of course, that’s just a calculation, and the actual figures actually vary a lot. But that’s a very good average for a series.

Gears of War 3 managed to sell 3 million copies in its first week itself and became the biggest game of 2011. The series crossed 16 million units a little time after that, almost over a year ago.

Gears of War: Judgement releases on March 19 next year, and it’s being developed by People Can Fly- the devs of Bulletstorm- under the guidance of Epic. It’s the first game in the series that does not feature Marcus Fenix, and will feature Baird and Cole as the main playable characters.

Stay tuned for more info.
