Gears of War Reloaded

While Gears of War: Reloaded has seen quite a bit of positive critical reception, the Steam version of the title has been hit by quite a few negative reviews. As caught by GamesRadar, Gears of War: Reloaded currently sits at an aggregate of Mixed reviews, with only 48 percent out of its 923 user reviews being positive. There are a few reasons for these negative reviews, with a major one being the fact that the Steam version doesn’t have split-screen co-op.

Several of the user reviews on the Steam page for Gears of War: Reloaded have commented on the fact that split-screen co-op has seemingly been cancelled for the version, with GamesRadar even confirming that the title’s previous Steam description mentioned the feature. As noted by the publication, the Steam page included “Shared/Splitscreen Co-op” as one of its tags in archived versions.

“It was advertised to feature local co-op on PC, similar to Gears 5, which we enjoyed from beginning to end,” noted one user review on Steam. “It was the reason we bought this game. False advertising is the worst.”

The current Steam page for Gears of War: Reloaded have removed mentions of split-screen co-op, however, and the only form of co-op available now is online.

The title has also seemingly been facing technical issues in the Steam version, especially when it comes to linking Microsoft accounts. Since it is an Xbox-developed game, Gears of War: Reloaded requires players to sign in with their Microsoft account when it is first started. While the first login goes fine, reports indicate that players have been facing trouble with booting the title up on subsequent attempts.

According to GamesRadar, this problem with Microsoft account linking doesn’t seem to exist on the version of Gears of War: Reloaded available through the Microsoft Store. Even when accessing the title through Game Pass, it seemingly ran just fine with no issues related to the Microsoft account. This would indicate that there might be technical issues specific to the Steam version of the game.

The game has also been suffering from other technical issues, with some reviews noting that changing graphics settings seemingly causes the title to crash. Another review noted that crashes started happening right after they restarted the game after changing some settings in the Nvidia App.

Gears of War: Reloaded is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The title is an upgrade/remaster of the original Gears of War, which came out all the way back in 2007 on Xbox 360 and PC. The Reloaded release includes a host of enhancements, including support for 4K resolutions, updated textures, smoother frame rates with 60 FPS in the campaign and 120 FPS in the multiplayer, as cross-platform multiplayer for co-op and competitive modes. Along with all of this, Gears of War: Reloaded also includes all content that was released as DLC, as well as content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, including various maps and characters.
