Microsoft bought the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games and placed Black Tusk Studios in charge of creating the first next gen title in the franchise. However, it was eventually leaked that we wouldn’t see Gears of War on the Xbox One for another 2.5 years.

While he didn’t say how long, Microsoft Games Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer did confirm on Twitter that the game would take some time. “Still working through plan. I can say first original GoW from BT [Black Tusk] has to reignite franchise and grow it, won’t be a quick turn.”

So suffice to say, there’s no solid release date as of yet. Heck, we’d be amazed if the game were in a playable state by next year.

Will you be willing to wait that long for Gears of War to arrive for the Xbox One? Let us know what you think in the comments.
