God of War Director Cory Barlog Says He Was “Crying” After The Reviews Hit

"I could not talk for six minutes."

With a Metascore of 95, God of War is now the second highest rated Sony game of all time, the highest rated PS4 exclusive of all time, the highest rated non-Nintendo game of this generation, and just one of the highest rated games of all time, period. Surely, the moment when the reviews for the game hit must have been surreal for director Cory Barlog, who has spent the last five years toiling away at the game.

It did- once the enormity of the game’s reception sunk in, Barlog admits that he was crying, and he couldn’t speak for a while. “I could not talk for six minutes,” Barlog told The New Zealand Herald. “I was crying.”

It makes sense, too- as mentioned above, the reviews for God of War are overwhelmingly euphoric. The last time something like this happened was with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is now considered one of the greatest games ever made. To find yourself in that kind of company, it must have meant a lot to Barlog.
