God of War Director Says There Is One Secret About the Game No One Has Discovered Yet

"I still think there is one thing that no one has found yet that I know for certain, because I haven’t seen any stories about it."

God of War is a game that is bursting at the seams with content- the world is massive, and there are so many great side quests and hidden stories just waiting to be discovered by players. On the other hand, players have thrown themselves to the game with an astonishing ferocity, dedicated to fishing out everything within it.

And the news is, they’ve largely managed to do that- except for, it seems, one secret within the game, which game director Cory Barlog believes has not yet been scouted by anyone. At least, not that he knows of it.

“Ooh, wow. No, I really, really believed the sweet live action game I put into the collector’s edition would be something that would take players a while to figure out,” Barlog mused in an exclusive interview with GamingBolt. “I think the only thing they didn’t figure out is that the two toy pieces of Brok and Sindri have little markings on the bottom of them, and the intent was to actually put them on the correct position on the map, and to have them walk the journey. So people didn’t realize that you could have them walk that journey on the map, and then reach that point, and that between them, that secret treasure was hidden. And I love that secret, and I had to keep it secret from most of the team, simply because I knew, the more people knew about it, the easier it would be to leak.”

Within the game itself, however, there is still one hidden secret that has not yet been discovered. “I always think that people usually figure things out within hours, and the fact that we went a week without people figuring things out was impressive,” he said. “It would be like the nuclear disarmament cinematic in Metal Gear that only got leaked because of a bug or something, and it probably would have gone unnoticed beyond that otherwise… I don’t think I have anything as amazingly meta as that. But I still think there is one thing that no one has found yet that I know for certain, because I haven’t seen any stories about it. Now I’m not going to tell you what that is, but I don’t know if there’s any cinematics per se, it seems like people have been able to get all the permutations. Not one person, but everyone collectively.”

What could this one secret be? It seems that right now, the game is hiding something that we’ve not managed to uncover as a community of players- is it time to dig back into the game to try and find out what it might be?

God of War is available now exclusively on PS4.
