The new God of War game is one of the most promising upcoming games, right up there with Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild– so when we get a chance to learn more about it, we take it. And thankfully, we get plenty of those chances, thanks to director Cory Barlog’s propensity to be pretty open with the game’s development progress on Twitter.

For instance, speaking on Twitter recently, Barlog confirmed for the record, yet again and for what feels like the millionth time (I mean, come on, people, get the hint already) that the new God of War game will be called just that- no number, no subtitle. Barlog also confirmed that there is no release date planned for the game yet– and it doesn’t sound like the game might be done any time soon, either, because owing to the sheer amount of work that Sony Santa Monica are currently facing, Barlog can’t even commit to the game appearing at the PlayStation Experience later this year.

What he can confirm is that blocking and parrying will both be part of the repertoire of moves available to the player. He also promised that the game would have many “incredible moments of epic scale that manifest in ways different from previous games,” which, again, is something that he has been promising for a while now. On the other hand, Barlog can’t yet confirm how long the game will be- and won’t be able to until development on the game is done.

Finally, if the development of God of War really interests you, then the good news is, Barlog intends for there to be some kind of The Making of God of War feature that will hopefully shed some more light on the development of this anticipated game. God of War will launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 systems next year.
