God of War Will Be Less Hack-n-Slash And More Narrative Focused, According to Sony

Now that sounds interesting...

The new God of War game promises to be a major, dramatic departure from previous games in the series. We’ve already seen some of those changes at the game’s E3 showcase last year- however, it looks like the full extent of those changes may not have been understood. Speaking to Glixel, Sony’s Jim Ryan mentioned that the new God of War game adopts a more narrative-heavy approach than previous games in the series.

“It’s a franchise that has historically acutely underperformed in Europe,” Ryan said. “Hack and slash games tend to not do so well in Europe, so the narrative this time around will make a big difference. European gamers love narrative games.”

A more narrative focused God of War game, especially of the kind that Sony debuted last year, sounds like it would be immensely interesting. I can’t wait to see what the new game is like- what we saw last year gave me  slower, more measured Zelda game vibes, which means I’m all on board. We’re just a week away from finding out.
