Goodbye Volcano High, KO_OP’s narrative adventure about anthropomorphic dinosaurs, is delayed again. It was slated to release on June 15th but will launch on August 29th for PS4, PS5 and PC.
In an official statement, the developer revealed that it couldn’t “have met our June launch date without significant cuts to the quality and scope of the game.” Since it didn’t want to release “anything less than the best version of the game we have been making throughout our development cycle,” it decided to delay the game.
Of course, it also wants to avoid crunch. “Meeting our original launch date would require our team to work nights, weekends and early mornings to ship and risk burning people out.” Since June has so many games (Street Fighter 6, Final Fantasy 16, Diablo 4 and Layers of Fear at last count), the delay also “opens us up to more incredible opportunities and gives the game a greater chance of success.”
In the meantime, following the positive feedback to its recent demo, KO_OP will release another public demo soon. Stay tuned for more details on when that goes live.
Goodbye Volcano High is about Fang, who attends Volcano High and plays in a band with her friends Trish, Naser and Naomi. Between songwriting and conversing with friends, she also has to figure out how to spend her senior year, given that a meteor is en route to destroy everything.
Of course, it’s up to the player and the narrative features several branches depending on your choices. Check out the latest trailer to see the game in action.
