The Gran Turismo series has notched up some impressive numbers (as of March 2017).

Given the time it takes to develop a new Gran Turismo game, you’d think it wouldn’t be worth Sony’s while. However, that’s not quite the case. As per Polyphony Digital’s official site, the Gran Turismo series has sold a total of 76.90 million copies worldwide as of March 2017. The developer noted that the series had a strong following in Europe and North America since debuting in 1997.

With six games in the franchise, not including the recent Gran Turismo Sport, it would seem that Sony’s flagship racer is doing incredibly well for itself. It remains to be seen how those numbers improve with the release of GT Sport, especially given how much it relies on connecting online for a majority of the gameplay.

You can check out what critics thought of the PlayStation 4 exclusive over on Metacritic. Currently, the game has a Metascore of 76 but expect that to change as more reviews arrive. What are your thoughts on the series thus far and on Gran Turismo Sport in general? Let us know in the comments below.
