Guerrilla Games helped usher in Sony’s newest console, the PlayStation 4, with Killzone Shadow Fall, the pretty but bland first person shooter that was the newest entry in Sony’s flagshp franchise. However, the highly talented development studio isn’t just resting on its laurels- though they continue to commendably support Shadow Fall with post launch DLC (a lot of it free), they have already begun work on their next project for the system. And they teased that it may or may not be open world.

They also talked about PS4 development in general, and how easy for the developers it is. “PS4 is amazing hardware for developers wanting to focus on gamers first. A lot of their APIs and features are easy to develop for, and reduces complexity so we can focus on the game experience more,” they said on a Reddit AMA.

It sounds like Guerrilla’s next game will be a break from the Killzone universe, which is probably good for them- as stated above, they’re a bunch of highly talented developers, but the baggage of the Killzone universe seems to be holding them back. Equally well, it sounds like the PS4 will enable them to achieve their game vision without any compromises. Although the expectation is an announcement at E3, the game honestly might not be far enough into development to be shown off as anything beyond a teaser. We’ll see either way next week, though. Stay tuned.
