Half Life 2 Empires Mod Receives New Maps and Fixes with 2.4 Update

Plus improved commander menus.

Posted By | On 06th, Jan. 2013

Like the original, Half Life 2 has served as the basis for some truly stunning mods and total conversions. One of these is Empires, a very old total conversion that turns the world of Half Life 2 into a Battlefield-esque style of gameplay where you can take part in three different factions over multiplayer and act a commander for switching between troops.

Now, for the first time in 2 years, Empires is receiving the 2.4 update which adds five new maps, new models, and a ton of fixes. Check out the screenshots of the new maps below.

The maps in question are: Bush, Arid, Eastborough, Palmbay, and Midbridge. All of these pack in the atypical warfare settings we’re used to seeing. The Brenodi Empire’s heavy tank and the Northern Faction’s APC have been reskinned, and the Brenodi’s Heavy Pistol (seen above) look much more palatable than before.

This version features:

  • 5 new Official maps, taking the total to 20.
  • Improved performance.
  • Reskinned User Interface.
  • Makeovers and improvements to 8 current Official maps.
  • New models for the Brenodi Heavy Tank and Heavy Pistol, and the Northern Faction APC.
  • Vehicle carcass recycling for the engineer. Making the battlefield a greener place!
  • Kill Assist points.
  • 8 Steam achievements.

Plus, for would-be commanders, issuing orders will be simplified through improved menus. For more info on the update, click here.
