When Microsoft showcased the next Halo, which has since been dubbed Halo 5, at E3 we saw Master Chief traversing a desert wearing a cloak and coming face to face with a towering being.

Needless to say, it felt like we had missed a couple of things.

Eagle 117, pretty famous for his thoughts on Halo 2 on the Bungie forums back in the day, recently discussed some of the more interesting plot points that could come into play with the new game.

For instance, that enormous being seen in the E3 teaser may in fact be the Didact. As noted at the end of Spartan Ops, when Halsey analyzes that the Promethean Knight has memories of a human from New Phoenix – where humans were being turned into Prometheans. As the Didact fell into the energy wave that was transforming humans, it’s possible this accelerated his powers.

Of course, there’s also the possibility that with Prometheans being machines that use human AIs, Cortana could be a Promethean in Halo 5. There’s also the fact that she was in the artifact used to create Prometheans when it exploded.

But the most interesting detail still left unrevealed was how Master Chief’s new sped-up evolution will play out. Microsoft has revealed next to nothing about the new Halo – including when and where it’s set – but it will be interesting to see where 343 Industries takes the franchise.
