HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us was one of 2023’s biggest success stories in entertainment media, and it was no big surprise when the company officially greenlit second season of the show. Of course, much of the year has also seen an active strike in Hollywood that has paused production industry-wide, including the second season of The Last of Us.
The Writers Guild of America strike ended in September though, and production on the show is set to begin soon. As reported by Deadline, HBO boss Casey Bloys recently revealed that production on The Last of Us season 2 will begin in early 2024, with premiere currently set for sometime in 2025. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie on the show, previously said that season 2 would likely air either in late 2024 or early 2025.
The show’s first season covered the events of the entire first game and its Left Behind DLC, though showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have confirmed that season 2 won’t cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2, with the game’s story being viewed as a multi-season arc.
