Hellblade Is The Spiritual Successor To Heavenly Sword. No, Seriously.

Original name, fellas.

Hellblade

Yesterday, at Sony’s Gamescom presentation, in the indie games section, a very curious looking game was revealed. It looked a lot like 2007’s cult hit PlayStation 3 exclusive action game, Heavenly Sword. And by a lot, I mean it looked identical. It turned out to not be a sequel, but rather, a spiritual successor being developed independently by developers Ninja Theory. And its name is Hell Blade.

No, seriously. They are making a spiritual successor to Heavenly Sword, and calling it Hell Blade. Subtle, guys.

So Sony doesn’t own the game IP, and they also confirmed that the game will be timed exclusive to the PlayStation 4, which means we will almost certainly be seeing it on the Xbox One sooner rather than later… if they can work their way around the parity clause.

If not, we can at least expect it on the PC, and hey, maybe even the Wii U, which has been doing a damn fine job of courting indie game developers lately.

In the gallery above, you can find some concept art and in development images of the game. Check them out.
