Helldivers 2 isn’t easy when playing solo, but things go out of control from Challenging onwards. Progressing through the more difficult difficulties becomes more manageable with more Stratagems, but if you want to get the most out of them, you need Ship Modules.
These are purchased with Samples, with Common Samples dropping on Trivial to Medium difficulty, Rare Samples on Challenging to Extreme difficulty and Super Samples dropping from Suicidal Mission to Helldive. They improve your Stratagems in different ways, making them much deadlier. Where do you them though?
How to Get Samples
The best way to earn Samples is to navigate the map and keep an eye out for them at various points of interest, including Automaton Factories, Bug Nests, abandoned settlements, rogue laboratories and more. Extermination missions, where hordes of enemies attack, have smaller maps, making them the best for farming Samples. You can also earn Samples by blowing up sealed doors and containers or opening caches.
If a map has a Radar icon, beeline towards it to highlight all the resource locations. A note on Super Samples: The best way to find them is to blow up Spore Towers on maps. An explosive Stratagem and rockets do the trick. Look for maps with thick fog on Suicidal Mission difficulty and above, then search for the Spore Tower.
