Hi-Fi Rush’s PS5 Version Looks “Slightly” Better Than Xbox Series X Version, as Per Analysis

That's down to higher resolution shadow rendering in the game's PS5 version, according to a Digital Foundry analysis.

One of the best games in the Xbox Series X/S’ library, Hi-Fi Rush, recently made its way over to PS5, as part of Microsoft’s initiative to bring more of its first-party titles to rival platforms, and though the rhythm action title’s PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are virtually identical where their visual and technical aspects are concerned, interestingly enough, it turns out it actually has a slight edge on Sony’s console.

As per Digital Foundry’s technical analysis of Hi-Fi Rush’s PS5 port, the game is more or less identical on both consoles, with “matching textures, anisotropic filtering, and world detail”. The one area where the game has a leg up on PS5, however, is the shadow quality. Comparisons in the Digital Foundry video show higher resolution shadow rendering in the PS5 version across the entire game.

The analysis does go on to stress that shadows are the only area where the two versions sport any differences, with little else separating them. All of which is to say that it’s a miniscule difference- though it’s certainly amusing that the console that Hi-Fi Rush has a slight advantage on is not the one it serves as a first-party for.

In our review of Hi-Fi Rush’s PS5 version, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Whether you enjoy character-driven action titles, fantastic visuals and music, or addictive combat, Hi-Fi Rush is well worth your time.” Read the full review through here, and read our review of its original Xbox Series X/S release through here.

Hi-Fi Rush is available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
