Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and Viewtiful Joe creator Hideki Kamiya is back at Capcom after nearly two decades away from the company where he originally made his name. Though currently focused on the sequel to Okami, the veteran game designer also seems surprisingly willing to go back back to one of his most iconic works sometime in the future.

Speaking in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, addressing the possibility of his working on a remake of 2001’s Devil May Cry, Kamiya said that he would “love” to work on such a project, especially given how aged he thinks the design feels. On top of this, he’d like to remake it “from scratch” using current technology.

“As for a Devil May Cry remake, of course I’d love to do that,” he said (via VGC). “I usually don’t replay my own games after release, and Devil May Cry is no exception. But, once in a while, I catch gameplay clips and think, ‘Yeah, this really does feel like a 24-year-old game design.’

“With today’s technology and game design approach, of course, I’d want to remake it from the ground up. If that ever happens…well, I don’t think seriously unless it’s really happening, so right now, I don’t have anything in mind. But if the time comes, I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do!”

Currently, of course, there are no plans in place – that we know of – of a Devil May Cry remake, but given Capcom’s willingness to develop remakes, it’s maybe not outside the realm of possibility- especially with Kamiya seemingly also onboard. One can hope, at least.
