Hideo Kojima Talks About 2016, Is Glad He Could Announce Death Stranding This Year

So are we all, Kojima. So are we all.

It is unclear how long there is to go before we get to play Hideo Kojima’s upcoming bizarre, cerebral action game, Death Stranding– as a matter of fact, everyone was taken aback and surprised at Kojima’s decision to announce the game as early as he did, given that it is unlikely to release before 2019 at the earliest.

But Kojima maintains that announcing the game this year was a good idea- in fact, speaking on Twitter in a retrospective on the year, Kojima mentioned gratitude for being able to announce the game this year.

“The year of 2016 was such a tumultuous year. Establishing the studio, planning the new game, hiring crews, finding the new base & engine,” Kojima tweeted. “Casting, building the new spaceship Enterprise. Everything had to do at once but overall I’m glad that I could announce Death Stranding.”

While the wait for Death Stranding is likely to be unbearable, on the whole, I am glad he could announce the game, too- it looks great, and entirely unlike anything that this industry has seen yet. I can’t wait to see what a Kojima freed from the shackles of Metal Gear manages to do.
